The Center for Research on Culture, Media, and Diversity (CRCMD) develops a multidisciplinary research agenda focused on strengthening local culture, digital literacy, the creative economy, and social inclusion in the era of technological transformation. As a research group within the Veteran National Development University of East Java, CRCMD brings together the expertise of academics from various fields, including communication, design, linguistics, law, tourism, management, and agribusiness. This cross-disciplinary collaboration is a key strength in producing research relevant to community needs and global challenges.
The CRCMD research agenda is divided into several leading areas, including digital media and technology, culture and identity, diversity and social inclusion, cultural tourism, and media governance and public policy. Issues such as Artificial Intelligence, disinformation, digital branding, media and gender, and digital tourism villages are the primary focus of this group's research.
The CRCMD is also actively developing research that directly impacts the community, such as strengthening creative MSMEs, branding local culture, developing tourism villages, and inclusive digital literacy. Several CRCMD members have a track record of research and collaboration with various national and international institutions, including local governments, cultural communities, educational institutions, and global organizations.
"One of CRCMD's key agendas is building a healthy, inclusive digital space based on the values of diversity. Therefore, this research group also pays significant attention to gender issues, digital protection, AI ethics, and public communication based on social and cultural sustainability," explained Augustin Mustika C., S.I.Kom., M.A., a CRCMD member majoring in communication science.
In its development, CRCMD has established six main research clusters: media and digital culture, culture and identity, creative economy and MSMEs, governance and public media, youth culture, and inclusion and sustainability. This structure enables CRCMD to produce research that adapts to the dynamics of contemporary society while supporting sustainable development in Indonesia.
